Future Plans and Core Programmes

The core programmes and focus areas for the Forum is based on the four pillars of the EAC integration process namely; the Customs union, Common market, Monetary union and Political federation. The overall goal of the working programmes being to accelerate a people-centered and prosperous EAC through Parliamentarians and their constituencies. The Forum’s set priorities for collective action by Policy makers on constitutionalism, integrity, free movement, economic rights, social and global cohesion as it does its oversight role in the implementation and regulation of these policies and resolutions such as the Customs union. 

Key among the strategic interventions shall include:

  • Undertake capacity and awareness creation activities on EAC integration processes for MPs, CSOs, and Religious leaders at all levels up to local communities and members’ constituencies.
  • Strengthen and influence regional economic development and cross border trade through common market, customs union, monetary union and political federation.
  • Promote and support regional peace, security and stability through organizing peace activities and encouraging peaceful co-existence among the people of East Africa.
  • Ensure efficient natural resources management and environmental protection in all EAC protocols and discussions so that they are climate change sensitive.
  • Support democracy, Human rights and Good governance in line with Article. 3.3a of the EAC treaty.
  • Strengthen Gender equality, youth and women empowerment and participation in EAC integration processes, discussions and dialogues.
  • Strengthen PEACA knowledge and membership roles in EAC integration agenda and regional development.
  • Enhance information flow by creating linkages at national and regional levels.
  • Support mainstreaming and integration of EAC laws and policies into national and regional development agenda.
